Event Calendar by Timely awesome plugin
I have been using this plugin for over 10 years and it works really well, displays nicely as an embedded calendar on the frontend and adding events is super easy even for the intrepid WordPress user. I recommend this plugin and thank the developers for their time.

Misleading
I signed up for a free account, then 6 months later they discontinue all free accounts and automatically opt me in to a paid account but I miss the email. I contact support for a refund and they gave me one.

Misleading – Not Actually Free
This plugin is a bait and switch. It claims to be free, but the moment you install it you’re forced to hand over a credit card just to get started. Only then do you discover it’s a 30-day trial, not a free product. This is deliberately misleading and a complete waste of time. If you’re going to charge, be upfront about it. Don’t lure users in with false claims of “free” only to lock them behind a paywall after installation.
