Features

The feature list from the plugin's own readme on WordPress.org, trimmed to the essentials.

  • Compress JPEG, PNG, and WebP images from a dedicated Compress Images page — no external service or API key required
  • See at a glance how many images your library has, how many are already compressed, and how many remain
  • Choose a compression level and compress everything that is left in one click — progress is shown in real time
  • Three compression presets: High Quality (smallest visual change), Balanced (recommended), and Maximum Compression (largest savings)
  • Uses the image library already installed on your server — ImageMagick where available, otherwise GD
  • Compress or restore an individual image straight from its row in the Media Table
  • Results show the before and after size, the percentage saved, and the total disk space reclaimed
  • Images that are already fully optimised are marked skipped rather than reported as failures — a file is never made larger
  • Originals are never overwritten directly: each image is compressed to a temporary file that is validated before it replaces the original
  • Compression runs on the server, so you can close the window and the job keeps going
  • Free version compresses up to 20 images per run

  • Time saver!

Media Library Tools has made managing four sites with media libraries almost 20 years old much easier, saving me time and making our libraries more manageable, searchable, and useable by staff ad volunteers. The media rename and rubbish files tools are really useful. I wish Media Library Tools would help me share media libraries across multiple sites in my Multisite network- I know it's out of scope but it's so capable at everything else media related, why not that too?

I use it as a fast, easy plugin to rename and add alt text to my Printful items in my WooCommerce site.
