Best WordPress Coming Soon Plugins in 2026
Data from WordPress.org Updated First published 5 min read
Holding pages and maintenance mode while a site is being built or repaired.
These plugins put a holding page in front of visitors while the real site is unfinished or under repair. The useful ones do two things beyond the page itself: they let logged-in users through, and they tell search engines the state is temporary.
Together these 10 plugins run on more than 2,933,000 active WordPress sites. Ranked from both WordPress.org orderings for "coming-soon", its tag listing and its search results.

How to choose a Coming Soon Plugin for WordPress
-
1
Send the right status code
Maintenance should return 503 with a retry hint so search engines come back rather than deindex. A coming soon page for a new site returns 200.
-
2
Check who gets through
You need administrators, and often clients and a preview link, to see the real site while everyone else sees the holding page.
-
3
Collect something while you wait
An email field on a coming soon page turns a dead period into a list. Confirm it connects to your mailing tool.
-
4
Plan the way out
The most common accident in this category is a site left in maintenance mode after launch. Pick a plugin that makes the state obvious in the admin bar.

How we rank Coming Soon Plugins
WordPress.org publishes two orderings for "coming-soon" and neither is reliable alone. The tag listing covers every tag the directory files these plugins under, "coming-soon", "coming-soon-page", "maintenance-mode" and "under-construction", and is sorted by active installs, which lets a large plugin carrying one of them loosely sit above the ones the category is about. Its search results are sorted by relevance and carry their own noise. So a plugin is placed here by where it sits across both lists: high in each one lifts it, high in only one does not. We fetch both every day at 03:00 UTC, keep every day's snapshot, and add nothing of our own. No plugin is inserted, removed or sponsored, and each entry shows its position in both lists on its own page. Full methodology.
Coming Soon Plugins FAQ
What is the best Coming Soon Plugin for WordPress?
On WordPress.org's own ranking for "coming-soon", Website Builder by SeedProd is #1 as of October 23, 2026, with 600,000+ active installs and a 4.9 out of 5 rating. By active installs, Maintenance leads with 1 million+.
Which Coming Soon Plugin has the most active installs?
Maintenance, with 1 million+ active installs reported by WordPress.org as of October 23, 2026. It ranks #2 in this list.
Which Coming Soon Plugin has the highest rating?
Website Builder by SeedProd, rated 4.9 out of 5 by 4,699 reviewers on WordPress.org. Only plugins with at least 50 reviews are counted, so a single 5-star review does not win.
Which Coming Soon Plugin was updated most recently?
CMP shipped its latest release on October 16, 2026. 8 of the 10 plugins in this list were updated in the last 90 days, which is the usual sign of active maintenance.
How many Coming Soon Plugins are there on WordPress.org?
WordPress.org lists 237 plugins tagged "coming-soon", "coming-soon-page", "maintenance-mode" and "under-construction" as of October 23, 2026. This page shows the top 10 in the directory's own order.
Will a coming soon page hurt my SEO?
Short-term maintenance does not, provided the page returns a 503 status with a retry hint, which tells search engines to come back later. A holding page that returns 200 for months is different: the crawler indexes the holding page as your content. New sites with nothing to index have nothing to lose either way.
What is the difference between coming soon and maintenance mode?
Intent and status code. Coming soon is for a site that has never launched, returns a normal 200 and often collects email addresses. Maintenance mode is for a live site taken down briefly and should return 503 so the pages already indexed are not dropped. Most plugins offer both and default to the wrong one.
Coming Soon Plugins: the bottom line
As of October 23, 2026, Website Builder by SeedProd holds the #1 spot for "coming-soon" on WordPress.org, followed by Maintenance and CMP. If install base matters most, Maintenance leads with 1 million+ active installs. If ratings matter most, Website Builder by SeedProd scores 4.9 out of 5 across 4,699 reviews.
