Why do my WordPress emails go to spam?
Because they arrive unauthenticated. WordPress hands the message to the server's mail function, which sends it without SPF, DKIM or a reputable sending IP behind it, and receivers score that as spam. Routing the same mail through an SMTP service that signs it is what fixes it.
Do I need an Email Plugin for contact form messages?
The form plugin builds the message, but WordPress still sends it, so a form is exactly where the delivery problem shows up. If form submissions arrive at some addresses and not others, or stop arriving after a host change, an SMTP plugin is usually the fix rather than a different form plugin.
